Mission: To offer innovative and effective solutions that enhance strength and conditioning programs for all athletes.
Our products, developed by university athletic department strength and conditioning coaches, focus on safety, efficiency, and effectiveness to address real-world problems encountered during their training programs.
CSI was founded to commercialize innovative sports products developed at James Madison University. The company is operated through the JMU commercialization foundation, James Madison Innovations Inc., and JMU students and Alumni are actively involved in the operation of the company.
The inventors of CSI’s initial products Justin Jones, Corey Anderson, and Jim Durning worked for the Athletic Department at James Madison University (JMU). Justin Jones is a strength and conditioning coach at JMU while Corey is now in Texas as a teacher and strength coach in a Dallas area high school. Jim Durning was the head strength coach at JMU. Through their work with athletes and personal interest in weight training, they recognized the need for affordable, yet effective, alternatives to expensive products that currently exist. They also identified the need for a more efficient apparatus to assist with range of motion exercises for improving performance and rehabilitation.
The group worked with James Madison Innovations Inc., to seek patent protection on the inventions and develop a commercialization road map. In the fall of 2012 a JMU student team wrote a business case for CSI and won the Fall 2012 Venture Creation Business Plan Competition. In 2013 the Board of James Madison Innovations voted to implement the business plan and provide seed funding to the venture.
As we progress, not only are we interested in benefitting the end user, but also each step in the process. We work with a manufacturer in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia who hires persons with disabilities in integrated work environments. We strongly believe in this relationship, our ties with the Shenandoah Valley, and the opportunities that we can produce here in the US.
